My name is Tasha Pool and I am an on location photographer serving the Greater Houston area. I specialize in birth photography, newborns, children and lifestyle family portraiture. I have recently added high school seniors to the mix as well.

I currently do all of my work on location; meaning I come to you! If you have a newborn, I will photograph them in your home or in a location of your choice up to 14 days. I can work with natural light if you have plenty of it in your home, I can set up studio lights if you have a space large enough to accomodate me or we can have a lot of fun and take your newborn outdoors with some lush greenery as a backdrop. Your choice!

Anything beyond the first 14 days are done with natural light only. I will only bring studio lighting for newborns. Babies, Children and families will be photographed in your home utilizing your natural environment as a backdrop. Or, we can go outdoors utilizing local parks, beaches or downtown urban environments for your images.

so, i finally finished editing the rest of this family session.  they were definitely the most excited customers i have ever seen regarding viewing their proofs.

i felt awful disappointing them for 2 days letting them know they ‘just weren’t ready yet..’

i had their session on Tuesday evening, worked a little on them wednesday, had church wednesday evening, two sessions on Thursday and a session on Friday morning.  so, i busted my tail after my friday session to get them done for her..

she was so giddy..

which makes me giddy..

and my friend karen and i have this ongoing saga over my elated *SQUEALS* versus ‘mini-squeals’.  her being giddy makes me have a big SQUEAL.  :)

{that all started when i was squealing on karen’s wedding day.. but she wasnt.. so it really concerned me that she didnt squeal enough.  EVERYONE needs to squeal now and again.. especially on their WEDDING DAY. well, now that she has a daughter.. a girly daughter that she gets to dress up.. i get mini-squeals from karen now.   that makes me HAPPY. }

back on topic..

so we went to my favorite fake beach location that has super smooth sand.. deserted beaches.. and great light setting over it.  we have to do weeknights now that it charges an entry fee.. a hefty entrance fee.. on Saturday and Sunday’s now.

mom was really worried that littlest guy would be fussy.  he was a champ though.  soooo easy to photograph.

because she is starting her online boutique.. she really wanted some fun family pictures that portrayed their style.  fresh/fun/modern/with a splash of girly.  i went all out with my lifestyle approach.. trying to do as little direction as possible.  letting them interact as they normally would.

poor little guy wouldnt have too much of this.  he was done after the second toss in the air… LOL

but, he continued giving me the most amazing smiles.  isnt he just sooo precious?

i think this series is my favorite.  of them swinging big brother by the arms.  he loved this.

i tried to get them all looking at the camera.  honest.  i did.

but, apparently sandy toes are far more interesting than my big fat pregnant self.

this one cracks me up.  a close up of mom and dad.. not showing one kid pulling dad’s hand.. wanting to go to the water.. while the other is eating sand.. just out of the frame.  LOL

way to hide the chaos of parenting.. LOL

he got his wish.  water.. here they came.

anytime you do a beach session.. you can ensure the kids are going to end up going home soaken wet.  it would be mean to not let them get wet.. right?

and the water shots are always my favorite.  when else do you get true, childhood bliss captured so naturally??

this is another funny moment.

the humongous wave had just come up.. washed everything to sea.. we ran.. caught it all.. and i looked up and saw this light break from the clouds.  knowing we probably had 2 minutes before it was gone.. i scream.. quick.. get in that light..

so we throw everything down.. rush to this spot.. attempt to watch the kids in between every other frame.. and i grab a couple for this series.

it was so worth it.. LOL

then, back to the ocean… for more childhood bliss.

when it was time to go.. mom stripped down older brother to change him.

the second he was free {literally}, he ran.  i couldnt help but capture it.

mom gaave me permission to share this.. simply because it is soooo stinking cute.. LOL

then, i grabbed a couple of mom for her about me page.

while the kids were strapped into their carseats.. we grabbed a few more of mom and dad together.

then, we headed home for a lot of showers.. having been covered in sand and saltwater.

i have the worst story ever that transpired from this day.

this fake beach has the prettiest shells i have ever found.  we find perfectly intact sea snail shells and hermit crab shells everytime we go.  so, i am always looking since my daughter collects them.

we have found live sea snails out there, which we always release.. and even on this day.. we saw a few hermit crabs.

well, i found this one really cool shell.. had a neat pattern of growth on it.. and covered in barnacles.  i checked it out.. and nothing was living in there, so i took it to my car.  well, on Thursday {2 days later}, my car had a rotten fish stench.  i couldnt figure out why.  {being pregnant.. rotten smells are far more intense}

thursday evening, on my way to my second session.. i was ill.  it was killing me.  so, i gathered up my shells from the floorboard that i had forgotten about.. and took them inside on my way in that night.

i soaked them in soapy water.. thinking it would help.

well.. we were driving to target on friday evening, and chloye found the really cool shell i had forgotten about.. and picked it..

she immediately dropped it .. SCREAMING.. ‘there was a crab in it.’  i said.. no there isnt chloye, i checked the shell.. dont be a weinie.  there is no crab in that shell.

she screams… “YES THERE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I said, pick it  up.. let me see.

she screams ‘NO.. IT WILL BITE ME.. ”

I again, call her a weinie.. and told her to calm down.

we pull into the target parking lot.  i pick up the shell from my floorboard to pridefully show her she is wrong.. and there are 4 little crab legs.. poking out at me.

i SCREAM LIKE A GIRL.. throw the shell in the air.. chloye starts screaming.. crying hysterically and i am busting out laughing like a maniac.  it was just the funniest moment ever.

rotten fish smell detected.  im an awful crab killer.

chloye is now mortified of hermit crab shells.

so, i am posting this for mom to see.. i want her to feel confident that yesterday’s chaos had a purpose.

we did a beach session..

remember that my ‘beach’ location now charges a fee on weekends.. so poor dad had to RUSH home on a weekday.. barely make it in before heading out the door to do a photosession.  we get there.. and literally.. two minutes into the session.. a family {not abiding by the LEASH LAW} has a dog come and pounce on one of their children.. embedding sand all into the fibers of his very white shirt…

the boys.. never having been to the beach are incredibly intrigued.. so we shoot as much as possible before they are drenched.  {they LOVED the water}

well, the thing about this beach.. {i have learned} is that you just never know when the tide will rise.  when a large tug boat flies across.. it sends massive waves up at randomly unexpected times.  i no longer bring a camera bag to the beach.. after almost losing some gear at my last beach session.. LOL

so, this happens.  one son is far out.. the other can barely walk.. and dad has to decide which child he chooses to save first.. a few clothes hangers  are out to sea.. their clothes, towels and bags were drenched.. and a cell phone was destroyed.

so much for me saying my sessions are stress free, huh???

i felt terrible.  but, they were the best sports EVER.. they laughed their way through it.. pulled the van as far as possible to the beach.. locked in the kids.. and continued some couple shots.  serioulsy, amazing sports.

these are just a couple of the first ones off the card.. and i wanted to show mom that her beautiful boys photograph amazingly.. and she will have some GREAT pics for her website.. and for her walls.

oh, did i mention they are opening a children’s boutique clothing webstore?? and have some other fun ideas swirling around in their heads?? im excited about it all.. :)

also, dont forget that i am offering a special deal.. i have one halloween one in the works for now.. and am still interested in doing this for the petticoats.  if this all works out well.. im even considering a Christmas one.. :)

my head is spinning with fun ideas of doing these mini sessions..

after talking about a leaf flying day.. i am envisioning some fun stuff with that as well..

but, it is all a matter of interest..

are YOU interested?? contact me today..

tasha@homeshadephotography.com

so, if you know me.. i have a slight obsession with nature/green/trees/leaves.  especially leaves.

i love watching the way sun shines through a leaf.. showing the veins and life of a leaf.  backlit leaves always catch my attention when i am driving.. and i like to remember places that have the prettiest lit leaves.  weird?  yes.

well.. this little cove is literally a block from my home.. and i pass it multiple times a day and marvel at the way light shines through this little cove.

i was saddened last year when someone dumped bags of trash out in the cove.. rather than walking it to the dumpster down the way.. and it made the cove look terrible.

apparently the wind has blown it away.. or someone actually cleaned it?? i dunno.. but it is pretty again.. so i set chloye up in the cove.  she was eaten alive by mosquitos.. but hey.. it was worth it.

i wish it werent on a busy street so that i could take clients there..  i envision dumping a few bags of raked leaves.. and doing family sessions there with leaves being thrown in the air.  but.. it really isnt safe.

i wish i had another little cove like this…. on a less populated street.

it just blows me away at how grown up my daughter is.  michael and i were recently watching old videos of ashton when he first started crawling.  we heard this little babyish voice in the background.. and we both asked.. who was at the house?? who is that?

then, you see this little 3 year old chloye run out and talk in that babyish voice.. and neither of us remember her being so baby-ish.  she seems to have been so mature her entire life.. that i forgot how little she once was.  i remember her being a baby.. i remember holding her for hours on end and staring at her endlessly.  i remember dressing her up.. and spending every last penny michael made at baby gap so that she looked so stinking cute.  but everything else seems such a blur.  she has grown far too quickly.

she is getting incredibly smart too..

like last weekend.  i made them stop watching television during the week since they are back in school.. so saturday, she literally vegged in front of it for hours and hours.

i let her.

i finally walked in and said hey TV head.. and she quickly responds “what computer head????”

i laughed and said “oh, busted!!!”

she is a huge help.  she cleans the bathroom and unloads the dishwater daily for me.  she brings the dirty laundry to my room, and sorts all of the laundry for me by color.  she started learning to cook this summer, and can measure out ingredients and cook with minimal assistance.  it amazes me how mature she is.

it also amazes me at how FRUSTRATING a tween girl can be.  sheesh.  we butt heads, we argue.. and then she always apologizes for being disrespectful in the end.  she is a great kid!

so, i bought these adorable petticoats forever ago.  they never get used.  i was sooooo excited to dress little girls up in them.. but yet.. i can count on one hand how many times they have been worn.  that poor petti dress for 6-12 month olds has still yet to be worn.  :(

so, here is what i am proposing.. a couple of ideas.

a Portrait Party.

i have never done them before.. so this is new to me.. but i think i have the logistics of them worked out.

Hostess: your responsibility will be lining up the guests with time slots.  i will provide the info you need to determine time slots and to keep it all organized.    You will receive a checklist from me as well, helping you keep yourself organized through it all, as well as outlining your responsibilities.

you will organize time slots, provide a location, collect monies for time slots and deliver final prints once delivered to you.

as with any home based party.. you will receive fun benefits from me (aka pictures) in return for your awesome hostessing skillz!

i will provide fun petticoats, tutu’s, large lollipops, bubbles and angel wings.  i will have small chairs, etc for kids to remain stationary if need be.

while i am targeting little girls with this.. boys can come too.  i just dont have dress up for them.. unless you feel like putting them in a petticoat.  but they can have fun with bright lollipops and bubbles.. right?

this is only available for babies 3+months - age 9/10  {depending on whether or not they can fit into my large pettis}.  this is not an adequate time frame to photograph a newborn.

i was also thinking of doing something like this come closer to Halloween utilizing halloween costumes.  face it, there are some CUTE CUTE CUTE halloween costumes out there.. and why not get a photograph of them in the costumes?

so, if you are interested in this.. check this post to see my list of available dates for 2008 and let me know when you are interested.

this is great for a mommy group.. and if there are no kids in school, we can do this during the day.. as long as you have adequate shade or a large sun room.

or, we can do this midafternoon to late evening on a monday/friday or saturday i have open.

if this doesnt interest you, but you know others with some girly girls.. please pass this blog post on to them.  i would really appreciate it.

PS… if there is an interest in this.. i will make multiples of tutu’s for the day as well.  so, if there is a color combo of the tulle tutu’s you would like.. please let me know.

some cute cute examples of tutus include large bows, rainboots and chubby legs…
